DESCRIPTION :

Indian Maritime University (IMU)¸ first of its kind in India¸ has been established as a Central University by the Government of India by an Act of Parliament¸ namely¸ the Indian Maritime University Act¸ 2008. The ?Act? was brought into force on 14th November 2008 and notified in the Gazette of India. Presently¸ it has six campuses¸ Chennai¸ Kolkata¸ Mumbai¸ Vishakhapatnam¸ Cochin and now in Kandla in Gujarat.
 
Kandla is the campus¸ which was initiated under the dynamic leadership of Shri P.D. Vaghela¸ Chairman¸ KPT and Dr P. Vijayan¸ the then Vice Chancellor¸ IMU. It started functioning since 22nd August 2011 with 30 cadets for one year Diploma In Nautical Science. The entire expenses for creation of infrastructure facilities for campus were borne by Kandla Port Trust. The university is grateful to Kandla Port Trust for their continued support and co-operation at all stages for the development of the campus. Capt Mukesh Baveja is the first Director in charge of IMU Kandla Port campus.
 
IMU Kandla Port Campus aims to achieve a high degree of excellence in the field of marine and logistics education. This campus has plans to introduce an assortment of new courses based on the versatile needs of the marine and logistics sector. Within a span of one year¸ this campus has already set a high standard in the field of maritime education and training by giving 100% result for the first batch of DNS course. In spite of constraints associated with every new institution¸ with the dedicated team of faculty members¸ experts from the industry as visiting faculty¸ enthusiastic student community and hardworking administrative staff¸ this campus will continue to strive for excellence in the field of marine education¸ training and research. The advantage of being located in a state having 1600 Kms of coast line and highest number of ports¸ gives this campus great opportunities alongwith  responsibilities for development  in the field of marine education.
