DMI was established in 1987 in the backdrop of world?s worst ever Chemical Disaster as an autonomous organization of Housing and Environment Department¸ Government of Madhya Pradesh now under Administrative control of Home Department¸ Government of Madhya Pradesh . It is the only institute of its kind in the whole country attaining substantial credibility in imparting professional training and providing consultancy services in the area of natural as well as man-made disaster management.
