Sri Ganganagar is a district headquarters of Bikaner Division in Northern Rajasthan. This city derives its name from its founder¸ Late His Highness Ganga Singh. The district has a population of about 2 million people with literacy rate of about 65%. The life line of the district ?Gang canal? was an idea of the late His Highness¸ who spared no stone unturned to turn it into a reality and today it is because of this canal that this part of Rajasthan is green and is well known for its citrus orchards¸ food grains and cotton.
Sri Ganganagar city which has a population of about 3 lakhs¸ is 470 kms from Delhi¸ 420 kms from Jaipur¸ 325 kms from Chandigarh¸ 270 kms from Amritsar and 225 kms from Bikaner. It is well connected by railways and surface transport to major cities of Rajasthan as well as adjoining states of Punjab¸ Haryana¸ Gujarat¸ Madhya Pradesh¸ Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The nearby International cum domestic airports are situated at Amritsar and New Delhi. Domestic airports are at Jaipur¸ Chandigarh and Bathinda (upcoming).
