DESCRIPTION :

The Maha Swamiji of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam had cherished a desire to revive Kanchipuram to its pristine glory as a center of learning. The Viswa Mahavidyalaya at Kanchi was established with the benign Blessings of Their Holiness Pujyasri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamiji and Pujyasri Sankara Vijayendra Saraswathi Swamiji and it attained the status of Deemed University in 1993. 

The University has a campus in Poonamalle¸ Chennai¸ housing an ayurveda College¸ research centre and hospital. 
The University has a unique focus on integrating traditional knowledge with modern scientific practices with a global outlook. 

The true purpose of education is to prepare student mind to find harmony with the culture of the land and mould students into noble human beings with strong character¸ warmth and compassion. Enabling students to acquire knowledge in class rooms and technical skills in laboratory is just a necessary but not sufficient condition for student development. What is more important is to identify the innate talents of students and bring out their hidden potentialities to purpose for all around personality development¸ which will stand by them¸ in serving the society with responsibility and commitment later in their career. Accent is on the fusion of Eastern thought and Western methodology in education. This is the vision of our Mahavidyalaya¸ which bears a unique stamp of identity. 

 The Mahavidyalaya offers presently programmes in Sanskrit and Traditional Sastras. In modern education¸ it offers UG and PG courses in various branches of Engineering¸ and PG courses in Computer Application and Management Studies. Bachelor.s degree in Ayurvedic Medicine¸ keeping with the original Ayurvedic tradition is offered in a constituent unit of the Mahavidyalaya. It offers Ph.D programmes in all disciplines.
