The success of all efforts in education depends upon the educational qualification and professional competencies of the teacher. In the educational process¸ a good and effective teacher occupies a place of tremendous importance. (NPE¸ 1986) A teacher's primary responsibility is to facilitate learning. If teachers acquire personal competency and commitment¸ and if they are enabled and empowered to perform their multiple tasks in the classroom and in the community in a professional manner¸ then a chain reaction can begin¸ starting with a sound teacher performance and culminating in high quality learning among students in cognitive¸ affective and psychomotor domain areas of development. To achieve this aim trained¸ committed and skilled teachers are required who are guided¸ oriented and made through teacher education programmes who can fulfill the demands of the existing system and can also meet the challenges coming forth the system.
Task of the teacher education is to create such prospective teachers who are full with knowledge and high values. Thus¸ teacher education is just like a pillar which provides a strong support for development of any nation. But in the contemporary era Teacher Education is striving hard to make it free from malpractices. Teacher Education Institutes which are strict enough for presence of students and regular classes are facing crisis of admissions.
