Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga (MDNIY) is an autonomous organization registered under the Societies Registration Act¸ 1860 and fully funded by Department of AYUSH¸ Ministry of Health & Family Welfare¸ Govt. of India. 

The Institute is located amidst the beautiful landscape built in the Lutyens? Zone in the heart of the capital city of India¸ i.e.¸ 68¸ Ashoka Road¸ New Delhi¸ 

Keeping in view the tremendous potential of Yoga as a health science¸ especially for stress related psycho-somatic diseases¸ the erstwhile Central Council for Research in Indian Systems of Medicine and Homoeopathy had sanctioned a five bedded Yoga Research Hospital in the year 1970 attached to Vishwayatan Yogashram¸ then a private society. After realizing the importance and effectiveness of yogic practices in preventive¸ promotive and curative aspects as revealed by the scientific studies done in the field¸ Central Research Institute for Yoga (CRIY) was established on 1st of January¸ 1976 and the staff working in the Yoga Research Hospital were absorbed.
