DESCRIPTION :

The present campus is located in Thiruvananthapuram¸ the capital of Kerala also called God’s own country. Known as the Temple city¸ Thiruvananthapuram can be roughly translated as the City of the Sacred Anantha¸ the snake deity on whom Lord Vishnu reclines. This city is in the extreme south of the west coast and is considered as the safe haven protected by the seven hills of the Sahyadris on the east and by the Arabian Sea on the west.

Currently¸ IIST functions on a fully equipped campus which is adjacent to Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre located on the Veli Hills¸ 12 kilometers from Trivandrum Central Railway Station and 4 Kilometers from the Airport. The Veli tourist village is a spectacular tourist resort¸ which is laced by the Arabian Sea on the one side and by the sinuous lagoon¸ which is the fag end of the Aakkulam Lake ¸ yet another place of touristic attraction¸ on the other. The lagoon is wedged by a golden sand segment which separates it from the sea. Moreover¸ the Tourist village has also one of the best landscaped garden spaces in Kerala. Here¸ the legendary sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman had chiseled out dunes and sculptures with a Pygmalion like perfection. Boating and other adventure water sports add to the latent attraction of Veli’s panoramic sylvan beauty. The present campus overlooks the confluence of the lagoon and the sea and offers an amazing visual spectacle of the green disappearing into the golden sand which further precipitates into a dazzling blue of the sea and sky.

The main campus shall be functioning at Valiyamala¸ which is 18 kilometers from Trivandrum Central Railway Station. The closest town is the Nedumangad Muncipality¸ the most important business and trade hub in the proximity. Nedumangad is also the transit point to various touristic and historical places in Trivandrum like Agastyarkoodam¸ the Koyikkal palace and the Ponmudi Hills.
