In the year 1990¸ considering low percentage of trained secondary teachers¸ a group of educationists felt the need for establishment of one B.Ed. College at Jorhat Prof Late A.C.Goswami¸ Mrs Debeswari Barua¸ LateD.P.Neog¸ Late Jatindranath Goswari Prof Late T.C. Baruah¸ Prof Nityananda Bhattacharjya and a group of well wishers started one B.Ed. College named as COLLEGE OF TEACHER EDUCATION¸ Jorhat. In the same year in September the college started functioning on receipt of temporary affiliation from Dibrugarh University. Initially the college was housed in local polytechnic High School. It continued there till the college erected its own building in May 1998.
